The Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (RIVM/MNP) has launched an interactive web application of the Guidance for Uncertainty Assessment and Communication based on the published paper version. All components of the Guidance (Mini-Checklist, Quickscan, Detailed Guidance and Tool Catalogue) are available in this application.
With the release of an interactive web application, the use of the RIVM/MNP Guidance for Uncertainty Assessment and Communication has been made easier.
Live demonstration session of the guidance
In the coming period, Dr. Arthur Petersen of the RIVM will fill in a public demonstration session of the Guidance, which can be reviewed by everyone by logging in with a guest account on the interactive uncertainty guidance application. The demonstration case will deal with uncertainties in the assessment of climate change attribution by the Third Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2001). The case will be used and presented in full detail in a book that Dr. Petersen is writing on the role of computer simulation in science and politics. The title of the book is Simulating Nature: A Philosophical Study of Computer-Simulation Uncertainty and Its Application to Climate Science and Policy.
The demonstration session will also be used in academic educational programmes at inter alia Utrecht University (Copernicus Institute) and at the Université de Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (C3ED).
